I am quite astonished to find no mention of this officer, who was a member of the crew of HMS Repulse at the time of her sinking, and whose previous and later adventures are also brilliantly recorded in his book "Course for Disaster - from Scapa Flow to the River Kwai" (1987 Leo Cooper, ISBN 0-85052-6000).
He survived the war, retiring from the Navy with the rank of Commander in 1958, and became a fruit farmer in Suffolk. Richard Pool was born in 1919, so he has probably passed on by now.
Surely many others must know of him? The book was available in public libraries 20 years ago, but I had the greatest difficulty in finding my copy about 10 years ago. Amazon eventually found me one in the USA.
