Of course separate! It's a dream to be able to have a choice.
The ultimate would be to have all of the heads with a long neck-peg, and also have a hole already in the torso just slightly smaller than the neck to push it in and have it stick.
I have no problem deciding which head would look best on each torso and no problem making them fit.
If the Zouaves had the subsequent Tiger Zouaves accessory heads, plus some regular Zouave heads separate, we wouldn't have to listen to all the experts complaints about an actually great set and measurements with calipers and shims.
Save yourself the grief and keep them separate.
Separate please. Whether they came with heads or not I would probably interchange anyway so having them separate saves part of the surgery. Of the heads already shown though I think there is a need for more heads with hats.
Separate, with the caveat of having many more heads than bodies for variety, with more hats, and yes, to echo Alan, heads the right size. Other companies' figures with large heads make them look like strange children.
Separate heads with extra heads, and include some African American heads with slouch hats on to model black Confederates, which would be the first time these soldiers have ever been done before. Thanks, Your friend Todd
I like the idea of separate heads, too. I think HaT has proven with previous sets they can do it right. As far as losing heads, with HaT's plastics and some of the better newer glues it's no problem. As far as spares are concerned I keep them on sprue (until needed) in ziplock bags in my spare parts container. For me, it's a win-win all around.
separated....but heads would be really good in right size (like the ACW troops of Italeri),
Separate please. Two reasons: More choice of hats, and because they can be positioned looking right, left
or straight ahead, a greater variety in posing.
As for losing them, given how little plastic they require, perhaps HaT could include a few spares per set?
I think separate, Hät could regularly release new heads with different headgear and appearances, perhaps available to buy from HäT online only? Just a thought.
I would only buy these with separate heads if the heads can be plugged on to the bodies like Swoppets. Too much hassle gluing them on, if you are doing lots, and they never stay glued for long. If they have separate heads that need gluing, I just won't buy them. Spare heads I don't mind as I just ignore them but they are available for those who want them.
We are told that our hobby is an aging one.
I can only speak for myself in this regard but these days the less glueing and fiddling about, the better.
If the heads were done like the British Napoleon Command set,

it would be great. The heads fit very well even without glue. It probably requires a bit more tooling in the mold but the results are very good.
Heads together with body, please. I would NEVER buy a set with no head toghether. I am a collector rather than a wargamer. I hate gluing.
I do hope that, if separate heads are supplied, the figures are made with an easily glued plastic.
I hope the accessory heads have long necks, so you can push them into the torso. And especially important, attach the heads to the sprew by the neck. This keeps the hats perfectly shaped. Do not attach the heads to the sprew by the hats/kepis. This will make it terribly difficult to maintain the integrity of the hat's original shape.
Separate heads.
Pin on the bottom of the head.
Pin fits into a hole in the torso.
Head attaches to the sprue by the pin.
No glue necessary, if possible, to hold on the head.
At least 50% more heads than needed.
Heads in a variety of headgear, bare headed, Black heads, naval caps, and etc.
Thanks for asking.

None of them, thank you.
I have no need nor interest in ACW Armies of any kind and feel a big need to put you and your interests down.
Sorry.

Navy caps would be perfect for the Confederate marine battalion during the Appomattox campaign. But I'm not sure HaT plan to make new heads, I suspect they go with what they have but I hope I'm mistaken..
As long as no sideways moulded faces with mouldlines running through the face of the soldiers are present, I'm fine with either option.
Separate, for all the reasons listed here, provided
- they can be used plug & play Swoppet style, or are in an easily glued plastic (all plastics glue is expensive)
- right size
- choice of heads / more heads than bodies
- no mould lines running through the face
Thanks for asking!
Not sure if it's allowed, it probably isn't but "that other company" has released images of their ACW marching..
