I am looking forward to adding the Austrian Infantry Sets to my SYW collection. Most of the middle European countries used either the Prussian or Austrian uniform styles for their troops, so a lot more options will be available. I intend to use them for my Imagi-nation campaigns, in addition to more "historical" settings.
First off is the "Army" of Baden-Baden. After that is accomplished, then wherever my fancy leads me.
I currently have over 400 Prussians. The infantry are mostly HaT with some Zvezda. For cavalry so far I have one unit each of hussars (Zvezda), dragoons (converted Italeri AWI British cavalry) and cuirassiers (converted Zvezda Saxons). The artillery are mostly Imex AWI.
I'm currently working on Austrians and allies, mostly Revell. These will include a core of Austrians, and also Bavarians, Palatinate and various Reichsarmee continents. HaT's SYW Austrians would really come in handy for all of these, as would the reissued Prussians for the Reichsarmee.
I have a few boxes of RedBox's Jacobite British and Highlanders waiting to be painted as SYW British, with some HaT Prussian command figures drafted in as well, and have recently painted some Italeri AWI light dragoons as the 15th.
The French will be Zvezda GNW Russians, though HaT's upcoming Austrians will probably be painted as Germans in French service.
Württembergers, Saxons, Brunswickers and Hessians will inevitably be converted Prussians.
Swedes will be Zvezda GNW Swedes if I can find any.
Hanoverians, I'm not sure yet. Probably HaT Austrians again, with bearskins replaced by spare mitres from HaT's Prussian sets.
For cavalry of all nations, I'm thinking of buying lots of HaT's French Horse Grenadiers and replacing their bearskins with spare HaT Prussian tricornes.
The only army that truly has me at a loss is the Russians. I'd like to model them in summer dress, with waistcoats only, and have no idea which figures to use. Suggestions would be welcome.
In short, bring on the Austrians (and reissue the Prussians)!
PS. Who's in for crowdfunding SYW Russians in waistcoats once the current queue is completed?
It sounds like you are going to refight the whole of the SYW. I must admit that I love the uniforms of this period and so have a mixed collection of painted figures that were chosen as being in the limits of my conversion techniques from what was available. So in my case I have a regiment of Russian Cuirassiers, the Saxe Hussars (a German Hussar regiment in French service) and a British Light Dragoon regiment that was made by conversions before the Italeri figures came along. In the AWI I have British Line Infantry, Fusiliers and a Highland Regiment plus Artillery from conversions before the Imex Artillery became available and the Brunswick Infantry regiments and combined Grenadiers. Then for the other side French Artillery (converted from Zvedza Napoleonic French) and Lazun's Legion both Foot and Mounted.
However, now I am trying to be more conservative and keeping my eye on the ball just paining SYW Austrians and now adding Prussians along with the Cuirassiers converted from Zvedza Saxons.
Interisting and inspiring to read about all the possible painting variants mentioned here.
In my case, any potential future 7YW Austrians will primarily serve with their old Revell comrades in their designated role. Would be great if their eternal wait for reinforcements would come to an end finally.

To be honest, if there ever should be 7YW Russians, I would prefer the convential way of contribution very much.
If they're done decently, they will fly off the shelves anyway.

Honestly, I don't particularly mind either way. Getting them the conventional way would be ideal, but if crowd funding gets them made a couple of years sooner, count me in.
Also, the Austrians are currently just three votes short of the top candidates, so if there are still any SYW fans around who haven't voted for them, let's get them up there!
