July 2011 work took me to Virginia a few days before the anniversary of First Manassas. I did the battlefield the day before the main celebration and was able to catch some of the smaller events. This year work is sending me back to Manassas right before the anniversary of Second Manassas. I guess lightning does strike twice.
Sounds great Bill. Yes, work is a valuable way of getting to see battlefields if you have time and are lucky enough to get posted to the 'right' place. Not so long ago I was travelling to Yorkshire in the North of England on business, and had plenty of opportunity to walk around the battlefield of Marston Moor, the biggest battle of the English Civil Wars, fought in 1644. Also the city of York, which has plenty for the military historian to see.
