Early WWII Germans are nice - smart uniforms, and I love the sea of grey when fielding vehicles. As far as interesting tactical situations go, try asking a vet how funny it was when u had to face a Matilda, a B1bis or a T34, let alone a KV1.
Early WWII is not polupar among gamers, because there is a serious lack of allied weaponry (tanks, ACs, guns etc). One needs to scratch, or buy more expensive. With a late war german army, you can game every european front.
I just finished an experimental conversion: combining early WWII Germans from Airfix, Revell, Esci and Caesar in the same (sub)unit. Looks good enough, though I haven't painted them yet. I would have thrown some matchbox in the mix, but I only have my initial/childhood/ sacred/unique/sentimentally precious set.
