We went to the Alps in June; more specific to Berchtesgaden that's close to Hitler's former "holiday cabin" Berghof in Obersalzberg. I visited the museum Dokumentation Obersalzberg, the site of the Berghof (what's left of it) and the building called "the Eagle's Nest". The most interesting part was the bunker complexes connected to the Berghof area that are still intact and accessable for turists (one part via the museum and another, more rough part, via the hotel "Zum Türken"). It was really interesting to see, among other things, graffiti made by french soldiers when they had captured a part of the bunker (although the yanks were on the site first). The visit really inspired me to start model those really late war scenarios and all kinds of twisted "what-if"-things . I can really recommend a trip there for all WWII-fans and others. If not for the history then for the nature and all the mountains, because they are breathtaking!!!
