Not so much discovered an overlooked oldie, but rather re-discovered a couple old favourites which I thought I had retired for ever.
A while back I built up some modest forces to fight battles in the May - July 1940 blitzkrieg across France. Most of the tanks and vehicles are 20mm [1/76], many made by Frontline Wargaming with some old Matchbox 1/76 Char Bs, Krupp Protz trucks and so forth thrown in for good measure. I realised that the Airfix German infantry set [the second generation 'classic' German infantry dating back to the 1970s] and the German paratroops set are a very good match for the vehicles in terms of scale - so these troops - who had been retired some good long time ago from my later-War German forces in favour of somewhat taller Revell, Esci and Ceasar figures - now find themselves back 'at the front'...albeit in 1940 rather than 1942 onwards. They seem quite happy about it, and the Airfix set still makes very good basis for early war German Infantry even after all these decades.
