A few years back during some inner city domestic riots, the riot police (normal coppers,but with better helmets and a perspex shield) advanced on the rioters banging their batons on their shields....to similer effect, the rioters in court said it was an act of provication so thats why they threw petrol bombs etc at the police. The police are now banned from bashing their shields with their batons,however not banned from bashing rioters with their batons .
