.......as Maurice and Rosa also asked for the Mexican Revolution and I gave them some suggestions and the thread is very similar, i copy this here:
For the Mexican Revolution, which lasted from 1910 to 1920 there are many parties involved wich I will depict als follows:
Porfirista Army (The Army of Mexican Dictator Porfirio Diaz for 1910 to ca. 1914):
Infantry: Strelets Set 024 – Crimean War French Light Infantry (without using the Zouaves…)
Cavalry: Strelets Set 063 – Crimean War Russian Dragoons
Artillery: Strelets Set 065 – Crimean War French Field Artillery
Guardia Rural (a mounted paramilitary Police Corps) : Gulliver Confederate Cav. (I made recently 150 Sombreros out of Green Stuff for these Guys…….)
This Army had to look very old fashioned and with the 50 Year old Equipment this will be achieved easily.
Huertista / Caranzista “Federales” (The Army of Mexican Dictators Huerta and Carranza from 1914-1918)
Infantry: HÄT Set 7002 – British WW1 Infantry or
HÄT Set 8292 – British Expeditionary Force
Also HÄT 8060 – Austro-Hungarian Infantry or
HÄT HÄT 8148 – French Early Infantry (in this set the Hotchkiss Machinegun would be very usefull as it was in widely employment from all factions in this War….)
Cavalry: HÄT Set 8272 – British Cavalry
Gulliver Confederate Cavalry (with Green Stuff Sombreros?) Also the Government Troops used Guerrillias (sometimes former Rurales…..)
Artillery: ?? HÄT Set 8210 – Colonial Artillery (I´m not lucky with this Solution as the Guns are too outdated and, even if Pictures exist, I can´t imagine that Mexican Artillery generally wore Ptih-Helmets…..)
Feel free to add Armored Cars, Armored Trains and Aeroplanes………
In the later years of the Civil War the Equipment and Uniform got a more U.S.-American Style so perhaps you can mix them up with the Sets recommended for the U.S. Army (see later……)
Maderistas (The Insurgents of Francisco Madero from 1910-1913), Zapatistas (the Insurgents of Emilliano Zapata 1911-1919) and Villistas (The Insurgents of “Pancho” Villas “Division del Norte”):
Infantry: Strelets Set 056 Boers
Revell Set 02554 Cowboys
Redbox Set 72028 Civilian Volunteers
Airfix Set 1707 Cowboys
As even the Villistas had sometimes a form of Uniform, use
Cavalry: Gulliver Confederate Cavalry (with Green Stuff Sombreros?)
HÄT Set 8206 Frontier Light Horse (as recommended in a similar Thread by Pedro….)
Artillery: The Maderistas had no real Artillery Arm, scratchbuilt or use some captuered Porfirista Guns
For Zapatistas and Villistas use Scratchbuilt Guns, or HÄT WW1 Guns with conversed (Sombrero?) Crews…….
Sometimes also the Rebells (also Villa in his best Times, used Armored Trains and some Aeroplanes…..)
U.S. Army for Border Forces and the Pershing Expedition
Infantry: Redbox Boxer Rebellion U.S. Infantry
Cavalry: Strelets U.S. Cavalry
Artillery: Airfix Royal Horse Artillery (but you can use also several other Guns as the Expedition was used to test some things. Even Holt-Tractors where used for pulling Guns, the expedition was widely motorized for 1917…….)
Machineguns: From HÄT WW1 U.S. Infantry the Hotchkiss or the Colt Machinegun (with Head swapped Crew…..) also a light Machinegun on Bipod was used (think the same as pictured by the Belgian Heavy Wps. That will be offered by HÄT)
Also I plan to use HÄT 8126 and HÄT 8127 Motorcyclists with swapped Heads as Motorcycles where used by Pershings men. Also Pershings Force will get Armored Cars from Second City and two scratchbuilt Curtiss Jenny´s.
For U.S. Navy Seamen in the Veracruz Incident and U.S. Marines I use Redbox Austro-Hungarian Seamen and U.S. Marines.
O.K., think this will cover the War of 1898 and the Mexican Revolution properly……
Greetings from Germany
