That may seen a bit crazy, but I too remember perfectly the smell of my first sets. No set has the same smell nowadays, or at least so it seems. Nostalgia...
Sense of smell is closely associated with memory. All I have to do is smell a box of lichen and it takes me back to 1967, Airfix figures and Mini-tanks lurking in the green underbrush beside papier-mache hills. (The bad part -- I stored the hills in a musty closet at my older sister's house and they grew green mold spores all over them. Eeeeeeew!)
