Re: Wargame Q: facing a force majeure of 16 artillery pieces?
Depending on the set of rules you are using Deltafox 3...
1- use skirmishers (Pandours) to inflict casualties on the artillery and keep your reserve out of the range... (some rules would disengage enemy artillery if they are threatened by skirmishers)
2- if all goes well - I would sacrifice Pandours and/or Landwehr in order to provoke the enemy to charge them. Screen of skirmishers should allow your landwehr to reach the enemy with minimum loss... Then counter change them with infantry while they are disorganized by their pursuit down the hill. If possible arrange attack on the flank of pursuing enemy formation.
3- some rules would send retreating formation back to where it came from - that is meaning the hill with artillery. That would silence guns (they can not fire at their own infantry) and disorganize all - or most formations on the hill. Sacrifice your infantry as they should pursue pursuers back to where artillery and other enemy formations are.
4- If you can do it right - and if timing is correct - final blow should be done with grenadiers, they should follow in a good order - to strike disorganized enemy (already disorganized by retreating men and in melee with your infantry) and to capture guns...
Was it not the tactics used by Duke William at Hastings?
