I beleive Shire Horses can easily be between 17 and 19 hands tall so the 24 hands quoted for the Teutonic knight's horse, whilst an exaggeration might not be quite as outlandish as it first appears.

certainly more realistic in my opinion to picture a fully armoured knight on a horse like this rather than the arab stallions you so often see in Hollywood films set in medieval times
