Speed painting is one reason why I love WW1, and why I have so many Austrians. I use pretty much the same techniques as were already provided. The only thing I do different is that after washing in soap and water, I'll let my figures sit (on sprues) in vinegar overnight, rinse and let dry. Then I'll spray them with a white primer. Krylon Flat White is my favorite. Then i'll paint using the soaked brush technique. Then I'll spray with matte varnish. However, the weathering idea offered sounds good and I'll give that a go as well.
