Valentine Thoughts & Wishes

Here we are careening into the second month of a new year at breakneck speed and already bearing down on Valentine’s Day. For most of us, February 14th is the day we stop long enough in our day to tell our partners, our family, and dear friends how much we love them in some type of outward expression, such as flowers, cards, and candy. Approximately one billion valentine cards are sent each year worldwide, making the day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year behind Christmas.

Some of us find ourselves literally at a loss for words when memories of our loved ones are all that remain. For those of you who have loved and lost your partner to an eternal walk with God, look back in remembrance of the love you shared with joy in your heart and then look forward with great expectation to all there is yet to come as your life continues to unfold.

For those of you in long-term relationships and (in every sense of the word) marriages, whether legally recognized or not, simply stop for five minutes on Valentine’s Day to remember what it was and still is that made your life partner “The One” for so many years. Mentally list all the reasons, big and small. How often in a busy work-a-day world, especially in these turbulent times with so many uncertainties looming in the future, is it forgotten how truly miraculous it is to love and be loved? And once you start mentally formulating your list, I am certain you will soon realize that five minutes is an egregious paucity of time to do justice to all the reasons, all the feelings, and all the memories. Take the time to share it with the person who is responsible for such a long list. No flowers are more beautiful, no card is more expressive, and no candy is sweeter than the warmth of an embrace that says “Thank you for all the love you have brought into my life. I am truly blessed.”

For those of you in new and blossoming relationships, cherish each unique discovery and the making of new memories. Remember that love doesn’t have to make sense. It arrives totally unscripted. Love has no age, no physical embodiment, no geographic limitations....no limits period. It can not be felt by the human hand, but rather by the heart alone. It just IS what it is, irrespective of its origin or its destination. Simply live large and savor all the spontaneous moments of discovery. Enjoy and celebrate all the lighthearted flirting, unbridled laughter, and whispers that can only be heard by the heart. As the words from The Little Prince say: “On ne voit bien qu'avec le cœur. L'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux" − “One cannot see well except with the heart, the essential is invisible to the eyes.”

To all those who put thoughts into words to share with others here on this Community Forum, may you have a truly delightful Valentine’s Day shared with all those you hold dear, both near and far. And as our Diva says so well: "Express yourselves!"
