I am a member of the British Transport Police History Group and whilst carrying out some research I came across a mention of Board of Trade Constables in the mid 19th century through to the early 20th century. The references refer to their existence at ports.
Does any member have any knowledge of this organisation (the Constables not the BoT?) on the Kent Museum website there is a mention of five constables working at Ramsgate Harbour......dealing with the drunks from the many inns around the harbour.
