I hope someone may be able to help, we have just purchased an old police house and are really keen to find a little.of its history, photos, criminals held etc. It was apparently built in the mid 1800s and so far searches of the web have yielded little. Is there some place within the force where such info may be located if requested.
Depends where your police house is. Unlikely that the force concerned will still have the records. If you got a set of deeds when you bought it that will have lots of info. Decision to biuld the house would have been made by the Police Authority not the force, so you'd have to check the PA records. Most (but by no means all) old police records get moved to respective County Record Offices. A good way to check (not only about police houses, but a range of things) is by searching government website called Access To Archives.
