I have just purchased a near mint, 1950's vintage, cork Home Office pattern (Met style) helmet manufactured by Christy's of London. There is no plate on this helmet but it is almost certainly ex-Lincolnshire Constabulary or possibly Lincoln City. There is no chinstrap on this helmet and absolutely no evidence of one ever having been fitted. The stitching holding the liner in place is intact so this is definitely not a case of someone having removed the remains of the chinstrap. Can anyone out there confirm whether Lincolnshire, Lincoln City, or any other force for that matter, ever issued these helmets without chinstraps?
