ATTENTION ALL HANDS: This is Chuck Andrews your ships office personnelman PN3 with my last entry to our ships "plan of the day". This is not a drill. On June 30, 2009 I was informed from a steel salesman Dan of DuBose Steel that offically the Truckee is totally gone forever. Dan and I have been friends for 20 years now with his stoping at my office every so often. Dan has know I was on the Truckee for two years and was aware of her being sent to the salvage company. Dan reported to me today that he personnaly stoped and asked the status of our ship. The Truckee has been totally cut up and sent in chunks to a neighbor shipping firm to be sent to either China or Turkey for a melt down and recycle to steel sections for resale back to the USA. Steel scrap resale is now returning to a former high end value slowly. Our beloved ship could be sent anywhere after processing never to be reconized again.
What we all have left now is pictures and some bittersweet memories to share with all former crew members. Please forward this information to all hands and websites. Long live the USS TRUCKEE AO147 Alumni Association and to the the rememberence of a great Naval vessel...she served us well.
