another wasted season
I read that one supporter is happy this season with the bay coming 6th in the league and reaching one semi final. Is it just me or does any one else think thats a crap season , for a club like herne bay ? .....In the last 7 years all the good kent league teams have moved up a level, some even two ( ramsgate ), like most people, i always think of herne bay as a top club and can do better....I no johns puts alot of time into the club keeping it going, but on the pitch i think its time to have a serious think about the clubs future, at the moment we are miles behind ramsgates standard , If you look at the ramsgate team now , there are 7 or 8 players still playing who only just beat herne bay to the kent league and cup a few years ago. Also the bubble there the same, the difference is, they,ve grown up as a team and stayed together, which helps. if we loook at the bay ,how many players have signed and then left the club. why ? .Also I think the kent league has gone down in standard over the last 8 years, so its a good time for herne bay to sort things out and make a good challeng for the league next season. What will help us out, is try and stop signing sunday morning players, and sign a bit of quality ! who knows what herne bay could achieve once we get out of the kent leauge !!!!!!!!

Rob, you miss the point entirely. Finishing 6th this season is a result when you look at what we were left with when our most experienced players decided to dump us and go for glory (or the substitutes bench) with other more attractive propositions. You should know about players who go off at the drop of a hat you have done that to Bay more than once yourself!!! |

Wow light the 'Blue and White' touch paper and stand back lol. Not going to say too much otherwise i will be here all day, on what could be said about Robbie's comments. However i do know where he is coming from, and as i have said on here before, a couple of different results in the year we finished runners up to Ramsgate in the league and the Cup, and it could have been us and not them sitting in such a lofty position in the Ryman Premier. That however is now neither here nor there. Is 6th place good enough? You would have to say with the team we are now putting out on the park, we do not deserve any higher. I am not coating the lads off here its just a plain fact, that there are at least 5 teams in our Division who are better than us. Lets take a rain check here and look at the facts (as they may be) I believe that 4 of the 5 clubs above us pay more out a week in wages (Erith Town i suspect being the odd one out) I also believe that our biggest problem lies in the geographical catchment areas available to the top 6. Its no surprise to see 4 of the clubs from London, and only Hythe Town from deepest Kent showing up in a challenge for the title. Hythe do however have some top Ryman clubs close to them that include Ramsgate, Dover, Folkestone, Margate and Tonbridge. We have i suppose Margate, Ramsgate and Whitstable but thats about it really. We seldom if ever do business with either of these 3 clubs, unless its our players going to them with nothing coming back to us. Therefore the facts are simple. As all these clubs pay out a lot more on a weekly basis than we can afford to, we obviously cannot hope to compete with them, when it comes to signing players good enough to get us out of the Kent league. Unless anyone knows a Sugar Daddy who is willing to meet a weekly wage bill of approx £1500, then we need to get used to the idea that we may well still be playing in the Kent league for years to come. Its hard enough keeping the club going on gates in the low 100's let alone day dreaming about the Ryman Premier. The 90's at the club were fantastic, but we have to move on and get real with ourselves. We have a lot of young players in the team at the moment, who are going to make mistakes. Some of their football is naive, but that is also one of the attractions of watching them. They play with no fear at times and are also a pleasure to watch because of this attitude. The secret is finding a blend in the team with some more experienced players, that can keep them all together until they can get used to the hustle bustle of the Kent league. That my friends takes time. If we are not willing to give them that time to mature, then we can just go back to signing Sunday morning footballers. I know what i prefer to watch!

Baz is always so long winded I wonder if anyone has the stamina to actually read his posts? What annoys me is knockers! No we didn't win the league and every Bay supporter is entitled to an opinion but I get fed up with people who's only reaction to a season when we have struggled to patch together a side is to bemoan the fact that 6th place is "CRAP". The boys who produced that 6th place put in at least as much effort (and probably more) as the treble winning side of '97. Yes I think it turned out a blinding season in the circumstances and one which gives great hope for the next couple of seasons. Sit around the cooking pot and wish for only the good old times and you will stagnate there. |

Hotchie, When i post on here it normally comes in one of two varieties; Tongue in cheek or serious. I believe that Robbies posting deserved a serious reply and so thats what i gave you. If you can't be arsed to read it all then thats up to you. I note you have no comment on it (not like Robbie) so maybe you did give up half way through. However when i speak about the club i am serious (most of the time) and it comes from the head mainly rather than the heart. I hate the idea of finishing 2nd let alone 6th such is the fondness i have for HBFC. I lost a HBFC flag in Tel Aviv last year that i had carried around the World showing it off for 15 years. I have today paid for two more to be made with HBFC on it so as to keep the World informed that we do actually exist. That is my small way of showing my pride in our town and our club. Where do you stand on it Hotchie? I am interested to know, as at least Robbie put his name to his article, not like the majority on here! |

How can he be a paying supporter when he is playing for Margate albeit Reserves? |

All the Reserve div's have a lot less games to play than the Kent league Premier. So if they are not playing on the day he can come down to 'The Bay' Its nice to see Ex Bay players back at Winch's Field every now and then. Robbie is correct in what he has said about him leaving the club. On both occasions his hand was forced by circumstances. He always gave 100% but the odd Manager did'nt rate him, and i suppose thats the way it goes. He left us joined Ramsgate and won the double so who's loss was it ours or Ramsgates. You decide
