reserves
There is never a lot said about the reserves on the website and I think today, with the first team not playing there should be a match report because if you were not at the game you missed a really good team performance from a young herne bay side against a high flying dover side that were really tested today. any chance of rewarding the hard efforts with a match report? |

I have to agree with you there! I never really watch the ressies (normally watch 1st team) but thought i'd have a watch and I must say that some of these boys should be in the 1st team. They deserved a win defended superbly until lack of fitness showed and dover began to run the midfield. After the midweek performance we should put some of these defenders in to show the 1st team defenders how it's done! Roll on mondays bay comeback!! |

Any 1 in particular play well? Your right, we need to sort the defence out for mondays game if we have any hope of a comeback as buster will have another field day! |

I don't know about 'not a lot said about the reserves'. Every game there is a short front page description of the game which is a reflection of the verbal report given by Deery over the phone. Match reports are not so easy to produce and whoever is doing the report needs to take notes of incidents and timings throughout the game and that's why there is no full report of today's game. I'm lucky that I am tied up with taking pictures and so it is usually John Bathurst who does the first team reports. When he goes to watch a rezzies game he has the chance to just enjoy the match for a change. As no-one else offered to do a report I'm afraid there isn't one. If you're offering we will gladly publish your report on the website. Just e-mail it to the club address. |

I agree that the youngsters put on a super display of skill and determination. Their deficiencies showed them selves in the last third of the match when they generally tired and ran out of steam. Other shortcomings include lack of bodyweight (too easily knocked off the ball) and a slight reluctance to challenge for the ball. Both these are matters overcome by experience so there is not a lot to worry about there. I thought three of the older players, Sean Bremner, Danny Cook and Ben Smith, were the reason Dover went so long in arrears. Them and Shaun Smith in goal. No disrespect to Max Ciano at right back but he wasn't involved as much as the other three. |

All you who comment on tuesdays 1st teams defenders did you actually go and watch the game as i did and didn't think the defenders were bad. Considering the so called experienced mid-field players were non existent. When i used to play as a mid fielder we were told to help defend as well as attack. If this Buster is sooo good why the hell is he not being man marked as everyone hates to be man marked.A young side needs to be encouraged NOT told there crap. Give them same support>come on you YOUNG bay. |

The problem with tues game at Hythe was the fact that Hythe bypass the midfield with their back to front tactics for 90mins as soon as they get the ball. This means that when we were pushing forward from midfield (at least we tried to play from midfield) and more often or not gave the ball away cheaply, we were caught with numbers up the park and a big hole between our midfield and the defence. Dont forget on the night the back four was depleted through injury etc. When you realise that we have recently lost Nathan Eastwood, Roy Guiver, Aaron Burret (injured on the bench) and also Sean Bremner (unavailable work) thats our whole back four! If you were there on the night you saw what happened, if you were not how can you comment

Baz i think you need to drop the Hythe game now lol we lost due to inexperience and injuries to key players although i thought the back four held their own in the first half and the fact that we rode our luck, but im not here to talk about that game, im here to talk about a good, no a great effort was achieved by the young reserve side fielded on Saturday, Morgo told me to use anyone i wanted but felt it was unfair to drag half the first team in, and which at if any of them got injured then i would have been moaned at for the rest of the season! So I kept the roughly the same team i had the previous week but this time included a centre back which we didnt have in last weeks game. I too have selection problems as we have a lot of attacking players but a short fall of available defenders due to work commitments, injuries or silly suspensions. The match. Against a side who hasnt lost this season I knew that the game was going to be hard from the start. So I decided to play a 4-5-1 formation. If you stop Dover from playing they will get frustrated and you will always get a chance to score against them. The first five minutes I wasnt too sure what to say as we were two nil up, I was gobsmacked!! We have always created chances in every match but have never been able to score goals but today was different. Leading three one at the interval, what was anyone going to say to these young boys who worked themselves into the ground, as I was praising them, we could all hear the Dover changing room, they werent very happy at all!! But give credit where due, DOver arent at the top for no reason, through lack of fitnes both physically and mentally we defened very deep along with injuries to key defenders it was always going to be a battle. It is very disappointing when you concede three goals with no reply and every player was gutted after the game as the management of Dover knew that they were very, no again, extremely lucky to get anything out of Saturdays game let alone a win. It has been a very frustrating season this year. After performances like that you have to ask yourself the question how are we sitting third from bottom. The answer is simple, any player that does well in the reserves and I believe is ready goes to the first team, this year there has been about 6 players who have been playing with me week in week out now with the first team and doing well, so although everyone in the club wants results through out, my job bringing young players through to the first team has been successful. |

if ne one watched the reserve more than once this year they wil no that we play like that most week and the main thing that lets us down is the fitness as we havent trained for ages, and we have had really bad luck, we play football from the back and hardly play the long ball game. the young players that hav come in, in the last couple of weeks have played better than ne1 would have wish. personnal i have been gobsmacked how gd joe nelder is for a really young player. shame morgo couldnt be there 2 have a look at what backing up the first team. keep it up boys |

If players that play well for the ressies go on to play for the first team then why are players like Ben smith, danny cook, joe nelder not being put into the first team squad? or r they?? i'm sure deery and baz will have an answer to this one. |

Both Ben Smith and Danny Cook have played for the first team on many occasions. Joe Nelder has not yet played enough Rezzie games to properly judge his first team potential but I am sure he will feature soon if he continues to shine. |

As i have yet to see the Reserves play this season as i travel to the 1st team games (normally) i will refrain from commenting on them. And before i get coated for not watching them i have not lived in Herne Bay now for the past 10 years! |

A big problem with some of these good young players are that they are not ready for first teasm duty at such an early age. Joe has only just turned 16, and is definately one for the future, but is very small in build, like most of these young players they need to develop physically to compete in higher levels, although the youth is there for the first team we still have to protect these players from being hurt as there is a massize gap between reserve football and first team football, but it is great to see so many of the reserves feature in yesterdays match, which then begs the question why havent these players played before now?? |

Deery, would it be because the 1st team management have never seen them play? To be fair to Jason, Morgo and co, they live in the Medway area and i doubt have seen more than one Ressie, u/18, or any u/16 game this season. Out of sight out of mind would be fair to say! |

actually when Jason was about he would always come and watch the reserves if the first team were not playing and now again would watch the 18s. But as everyone has at the club there opinion it is difficult to comment. But without someone watching it is my word about players which isnt taken and then comes the surprise of the quality of some of these players! and the question comes as 'Why havent they been in the squad/team?' |

Well the management should be looking at the ressies otherwise there is no point in the ressies being there!! Players like sean bremner and ben smith should be playing 1st team not ressies! |

Not sure how you think HBFC work, If the 1st team have a match and the ressies also have a match on the same day the 1st team management are with the 1st team and are unable to be at ressie matches. Saturdays game was only 1 day. Deery is very capable of reporting good players to the 1st team management. Also Sean Bremner IS a 1st team player and Ben Smith has also played for them. Don't agree with your point about the ressies not worth being there how would previous ressie players like: Ben Brown Sam Kettle Danny Cook Neil Perkins Christian Marsh Rob Lawrence all of these have made it into the 1st team also if you look at previous 1st team match reports Rob Joyce and Shaun Smith have also played need i say more!!!! Come on you Young Bay. |

It is great that all these players over the past two seasons have played and some of them continued to play for first team. The key job this year is to keep these players at the club, as they are young and give it two to three years experiencing first team and reserve football, Herne Bay has a bright future. How many other clubs can boast on the amount of young talent come through the youth ramks and play first team football within a season, not many, others rely on money and bypass the youth. Our catchment is the fact that we will progress players if they are good enough and given the right amount of encouragement rather than a telling off as these players although doing a great job are still learning the game and shouldnt be punished as a result of a mistake. My players have learnt from thier mistakes by analizing their own performance, they dont need me swearing and blinding at them when they make a mistake, it happens unfortunately and 90% of goals in any league or game come from mistakes. I only get angry and frustrated when the players continually make the same mistakes, as they havent learnt anything or bothered to rectify it. But i am glad that players have progressed through the reserves. P.s Im not worried about management coming to watch when they have a game themselves it would be nice to see someone in midweek games and when the first team dont have a fixture, im sure although playing great football already the players will step up a gear knowing that a first team opportunity is about. |
