Try again at Hythe tues night
Anyone worried after watching the team perform against Croydon on Sat? Well if you are best just keep it to yourself until after the game eh! All we can hope for is that we lift our game and Hythe get a bit complacent on the night. We have not played them since early Nov so that poor reult will have no bearing on the game this late in the season. More to the point injuries we have picked up in recent weeks, and players leaving for pastures new, are probably going to affect us more with the 1st team squad looking a bit thin on the ground at this time. If you can get down to 'Reachfields' then the lads will surely appreciate your support. Lets get behind them on the day, so that hopefully the second leg will give us still a chance of making the final in (hopefully) Sunny May. COME ON THE BAY

Well the basic facts are we lost the 1st leg 4-1. For those that travelled fair play and leading 1-0 at half time we had hope. Unfortunately the monotony of Hythes tactics of just lumping everything forward to Smissen and co ended up paying dividends in the long run for them. For me however as a bit of a football purist (I watch MUFC as well whenever possible) it was purgatory. Not once in the game did Hythe put 3 passes in a row together. Get the ball and lump it up. If you get the ball again just lump it up again and so on and so on! It was like something out of the Barry Fry advert on the Radio! When Wimbledon FC finally got rumbled that their 'Ale House' style of play was hated by one and all, it brought back to me last night what a real horror it was to once watch such mind numbing tactics. I hope Hythe get promoted because i for one would rather watch a team that at least trys to play football as i see it, and not the excuse for a team that may well be flying the colours of the Kent Premier League Champions next season in the Ryman! You can stick Monday back at Hythe in the league where the sun dont shine, if you think i have nothing better to do with my time. The sooner they are gone from the KPL the better. Good luck to them as a club, but they are not gonna get away with it at a higher level!

Hythe played to their strengths while Bay seem tp have to many youngsters who were out muscled. Give Hythe some credit Baz. |

Just to put a bit of Hythe spin on the above comments as a few have been mentioning the whole 'lump it to Buster' theory recently. Fisky and his squad are more than capable of stringing 3 passes together and have done so on many occassions this season (ask some of the teams that we have stuck 7/8 past.) However what it ACTUALLY shows is what an excellent management team we have. At different stages this season we have played 4-3-3/4-5-1/3-5-2/ and now 4-4-2 - as the squad has changed due to coming and goings over the season, injuries, and suspensions, we have adapted to make the best use of the players available - some of the football we played with 4-3-3 was just as good as the purists e.g. VCD/Thamesmead. Currently we have found that Buster/Kingwell are playing really well together so we have been going 4-4-2, however we haven't been at our most fluent due to a lack of fit wingers to compliment the forwards - Last night we had one winger returning to full fitness and one carrying a knock for a large amount of the game. A month ago we had competition in these places with the highlight being the outstanding Ben Sly who we were lucky enough to have on loan from Folkestone (a hat trick in the 5-0 defeat of the wonderful Thamesmead!) In summary - I also got frustrated when Whistable got promoted with a dreadful defence (which has really been found out this season at the higher level.) It frustrated me that they got away with it due to the amount of missed chances they managed to survive (in particular against us when we didn't have consistent forwards in our various league and cup encounters) We don't 'lump it to Buster'...... we play to our strengths - we scored 4 last night, had 2 cleared off the line, and missed 2 one on ones - I would rather be watching potentially 8 goals go in than some nice approach play that just takes longer to get to the best player in the league! 45 goals in 37 games - would you spend your time proving you can pass in nice triangles when you know how bad defences are in this league and you have a striker in that type of form? We CHOOSE to 'lump it to Buster!' |

I gave credit to Hythe at the begining of my original post. (Best team won, good luck to the club, i hope they get promoted etc) Fair play to your appraisal of your managers strengths with tactics, however what do you do when Smissen is out injured? (or sold as is probably likely) I stand by my statement that on the night you did not even try to put 3 passes together even when you lead 4-1 and were well on top. I accept that with Buster up front it may well be that just lump it up to him is playing to your strengths, but it is still in my eyes horrible to watch from a spectator point of view (obviously the locals like it!) You did'nt get away with it at Slade Green or more recently at home to Beckenham, so it its plain to see tacticly speaking it does'nt work against an organised defence. However as there are not thay many organised defences in the Kent league at this time (Erith Towns is the best i have seen this season) you can get away with it (Slade Green must have been an off day eh) We as a club have been crippled recently with injurys and players leaving hence the amount of youth we have playing at this time. We had a count up during the game and worked out that apart from Andy Forster in the back 4 the others had about a dozen games between them all season with the right back making his debut! Is it a wonder they eventually succumbed to the best striker in the league? Like i said before good luck to you as a club, but your style is just not my cup of tea i am afraid. |

Its not worth the paper its written on! Lets say Dover come in with an offer for him acceptable to both clubs (Hypothetical i know but definately possible) Shall i choose A Ryman Premier club to play for with average gates of over 1000+ or stay at Hythe in front of 150? No competition is it? |

Lots of clubs he has'nt played for and i know Ramsgate have been struggling up front in recent weeks along with Folkestone. Seeings how close Hythe is to both of them on the map of South West Kent, i am surprised there has been no (publicised) interest from them two clubs in him.

I haven't spoken to him directly on the matter - but I'm pretty sure that Buster has been there tried it at the higher level (Dover/Sittingbourne sitting on the bench.) He wasn't appreciated anywhere near as much as he is down at Hythe where he has found a home (in a football sense.) I would like to think that his ideal scenario is to get Hythe promoted and them aim to become a force at the level above (with Buster probably capabale of at least 30 goals at that level.) He is no old man, but he wants to be playing regular football and if Hythe continue to rise up this and (hopefully) the next division I think he will stay and enjoy the ride (and the goals!) One other point - if it is such simple/basic football - why is such a constant success with teams failing to defend it - surely the more basic the football the more basic the defending required? P.S. Baz - Our website is beginning to come back to life! |

Sorry- saw this on BBC sport and couldn't resist - only kidding around! 'If every 20 passes brought a goal, Arsenal would have beaten Middlesbrough 45-0 - but football doesn't operate on that basis' BBC Sport's Alan Hansen |

My last word on Hythes tactics (I promise!) on here. Find yourslf a lump of concrete and hit it with a hammer. At first it wont crack or break. Hit it a few more times then it will start to show signs of breaking down, until eventually hitting it a load of times you will get the breakdown in the concrete (Defence) that you are after! I rest my case. Talking about your website, this was the most animated conversation in the boardroom on Tues night. Tony our webman i believe put a few pointers forward to Hythe in respect of how to run a successful website (our numbers are impressive for the level we play at) and i suspect they were gladly taken on board by your club. Nice hot X buns by the way

When presented with a weak bit of concerete - destroy it as it us useless - sounds like you agree that we picked the most effective tactics on the night Baz! Come across a strong bit of concerete, maybe you need to CHOOSE some different tactics See you Monday - it's double chocolate cake this time - I can smell it cooking now and can assure you it will help you recover from some more of our choice of tactics!!

Baz...... you didn't win! If I was you I would be more bothered about the fact we are halfway through putting you out of the cup - a competition that at the start of the season we were BOTH more likely to win than the league title. The title was always going to be a huge bonus if we won it - a cup final was the priority, and thats the competition it appears we are going to put you out of! Maybe you should analyse your own shortcomings a bit more? Have you changed manager by the way? |

If a cup was what you were really aiming for (Pinnochio) then that shows you know nothing about the aims of Hythe FC. A cup win is only a bonus (ask any Chairman/Manager) everybody is looking to win the title in the summer so stop kidding yourself otherwise, now you dont look like winning it you delusional fool you

Sorry Baz - you obviousley were at a different speech by our chairman to the one I attended - the one I was at was the one where he talked about our past experience as a club of getting promoted - basically the time needs to be right - and our chairman was very clear that the aim of the club was to become a competitive top 3/4 club - he is a sensible man who knows that based on player/managerial experience/budget/attendances etc it would have been a huge ask to win the damm thing this time around - nothing to do with unrealistic expectations, everything to do with realistic aims based on a knowledge of what goes on within our club something Baz I feel you either a)know nothing about or b)will choose to ignore my comments on and accuse me of lying. Who was your man of the match by the way?

I can tell you that. He was Sean Bremner. Having been given the unenviable task of man-marking Smissen. he did better than expected. On top of that he scored our goal, his first first-team goal this season!!! |

Hythe fan i owe you an apology (NOT) I was in your committee room on the tues night when i believe i heard the following comments on the night from your board members. PROMOTION, work still needed on ground to meet PROMOTION criteria, the cost of running the club following your PROMOTION, the cost of players wages next season having won PROMOTION, extra sponsorship that would have to be raised when PROMOTION was gained, lots of local derbys bonus of winning PROMOTION, gates would increase with PROMOTION (Anyone seeing a pattern forming here?) Not once was the importance of winning the league cup mentioned (although you were losing 1-0 at the time i suppose) WINNING PROMOTION bloke full stop nothing else mattered. Go back and ask them what they would rather have? Trust me the cup would not even be a close 2nd you muppet.

However MUPPET I was refering to the start of season target hence I then refered to the title being a bonus? Any way what kind of board member picks and chooses the games he supports his team in? I'm bored now and have realised what I should have to begin with - you are on a wind up! see ya! |

So every board member attends every game at Hythe does he/she? They never go on holiday during the season? None of them are ever ill? None of them ever have to work on the odd match day? None of them ever think i dont want to go and watch that team play because their football is awful to watch or the grounds a dump? Get real mate and take of those Red and White striped rose tinted spectacles. Your starting to become an embarresment on here

I wish it would come to an end Baz as I am so so so bored but as you refuse to stop twisting my words.... 'picks and chooses the games he SUPPORTS his team in' was what I said, I didn't refer to any of the other reasons you drone on about - people like you are the reason forums are such a waste of time so this time I will stay true to my word and not reply again (however I would put money on you not being able to resist saying something with no relevance or twisting my words one final time)
