Hello Wayne
For casting in Linka moulds I use the resin normally associated with making 'glass fibre' boats and car bodies.
If you live near a Boat Builder, Industrial Fibreglass factory I am sure they might let you buy half a gallon with catalyst quite cheaply.
I use what they call Resin A to which I add fillers to adjust the properties.
e.g. There is a powder called 'Microfil' that gives body to the resin and makes it go further in production terms.
One down side is that once you have added the catalyst to the resin and it has set, there is no going back. It can't be remelted or disolved for re-use.
However it is very strong and can be filled and sanded. It does take a bit more 'elbow grease' than plaster but doesn't break up so readily.
It is also hard wearing; some of my castings end up in out-door displays.
Best of luck
