I agree that using infantry in place of dismounted cavalry is not great (except with Forrest and others who had cavalry/mounted infantry hybrid units.) But what are you gonna do when there are so few figures for dismounted cavalry and many of them are using arcane weapons such as pistols with shoulder stock attachments?
And if you don't use those pistol-cum-musket-armed foot soldiers as dismounted cavalry, you just have to throw them away. There are too many of them to use them all as NCO's or partisans.
As for Black units, long before A Call to Arms/House of Campaign came out with their four poses of US Colored Troops, I painted three regiments of USCT for Olustee. Most available infantry poses worked as well for USCT as for Euro-American soldiers.
Of course, neither 4 USCT poses nor 4 Iron Brigade poses is near enough! |
