Wayne, you said it well. As a fellow Alabamian, I agree with you about the history.
I'm not an American historian; I confess that I don't like American history much, although that is primarily the way it is handled. I love the Ancients and Medievals and Nappies that are being produced now. Nonetheless, despite the fact that I will probably never purchase a ACW set, I also think that they should be produced, if or when it is in the best interests of the manufacturers. There is too much "us" versus "them" on this forum. I do hope that the ACW boosters, as well as the boosters for a variety of different wars and eras do, finally, get to see the sets they desire produced. Almost every war has its fans, and all deserve their day in the sun. Hopefully, the current Golden Age, as PSR has dubbed it, will continue and everyone will get what they want. Hat and Strelets have both been pretty good about listening to what we have to say, and soliciting our input. Let's give credit where it is due, and I am confident that one day you'll see those sets you want so badly.
A quick side note, the ACW saw the first real use of the telegraph for communication between commanders as a real war fighting tool. It was, to my knowledge, first used during the Crimean War, but mostly for communication between the field and the government. Just want to clarify a bit; I think that is what Wayne meant. |
