While I was serving in the Virginia Army National Guard, we were on parade one day with a unit from Maryland. We had our flags with their battle streamers flying proudly in the breeze. Our flag had the battle streamers from 1st Manassas, 2nd Manassas and Sharpsburg on it. I looked across the small parade ground at the Maryland units flag. Theirs had the streamers 1st Bull Run, 2nd Bull Run and Antietam on it. It really makes you think about things in a moment like that. |
