Message:   Hi John

I'd be interested to see Fire and Fury, as it seems so popular. I've got loads of ACW figures, but i doubt i'll ever paint more than a few batts, as i don't find them all that interesting to paint (quick, perhaps - i feel a can of worms being opened as i write....).

I'd be keen to see the mid-19th F&F applied to Crimean War though, as this period is a bit more colourful, both in terms of uniforms, tactics and arms of service (escaping worms....).

F&F has also been done for Naps (Age of Eagles?), whilst General de Brigade has been done for ACW (Guns at Gettysburg, or something), but i'm not sure how these work out. For Naps i've mainly been using Shako, with 24-figure batts and a few house rules.

I've got a copy of battlegames that i got from a show (always has a black cover?), but as smiths don't stock it, i'm not a regular reader. i'm a little loath to get it on order, as then i'd have to get MW and WI as well: to save the pennies i try to buy them only when they've got something that really interests me (this of course means that when i get into a new period, i inevitably regret not having bought a particular issue).

I've also got a couple of issues of the old-style battle games, presumably before it went out of print the first time.

I was lucky growing up that our library had copies of Wesencraft orange book and Grant's 'the wargame' as well as Little Wars ("for boys of all ages and the slightly more intellignet type of girl..." or something like that), my school library had copies of 'the ancient wargame' and Wise's 'battle games' (although i couldn't bring myself to take that home as some one had added male genitals to most of the pictures, some in decidedly anatomically unlikely places, and i didn't want my parents to think i'd done it). I even managed to get hold of Featherstones 'the wargame' (they weren't always the most imaginative with their titles, but i suppose they took a Ronseal appraoch) for 10p at my big brother's school fete. I must revist them.

There's still some old school stuff coming out: Stuart Asquith has recently issued another editon of his solo wargaming book, althuogh i'm yet to read a copy (rather hoping i have enough friends not to need to!)

Blanco, Brasso, i'm not sure: i'll have to revist my Derek and Clive.

Cheers, Steve
