I reckon it's down to aesthetics, German Trucks looked like they were built in the 1950's, while ours looked like they were built in the 1920's. Their Tanks had futuristic faceting, our Churchill and Matilda I 'looked' like scaled up tin-plate toys, and the Matilda II looked like a pregnant duck. They had half-tracked carriers that even today look like they were bought from the Dalek's, we had motorised go-carts you can only model by cutting the crew in half at the waist!!
Their armoured-cars were clearly designed by the guy who build X-Wing fighters, ours did so well in WWI we gave them new wheels! They marched up and down Nurnberg in their tens of thousands, in highly tailored black uniforms and gloss helmets, we looked like a sack of spuds in our Battle-dress, before it rained!!!
Military Modelling in the 70's was sixty-percent German when it came to WWII and Tamiya's list used to be 85/90% Deutsch. But I think things are changing for the better? |
