How long have you been an RDH?   1.5 yrs
Message:   Thank you for your replies so far. I do not feel that my BS in hygiene opens any other doors for me. That's why I chose the associate degree nursing program- cheaper, faster, closer to home, good program, etc. The only thing my bachelor's can do for me is to teach hygiene at a community college, and there are no job openings for that either, even if I did have more experience. Sales positions prefer you to have a business degree as well, but again, no jobs there either. I picked nursing because a lot of it is similar to hygiene, I like pt care, and there is a DEMAND. I cannot think of any other career right now that I could finish a degree in 1.5 years and be NEEDED. I do not know what other field I could get into and be able to find consistent work. Nurses will always be needed and have jobs. I can't say that for hygiene or pretty much any other field (other than doctors, etc).
A bachelor degree can gain me entry into an accelerated BSN RN program, but like I said earlier, my 3.5 GPA isn't high enough, and I think the stress of associate degree classes in nursing will be plenty without the addition of nursing management classes.

I am trying to listen to my gut, but it is giving me bad feelings for both paths, lol. I feel that the hygiene field is too shaky, especially with the possible invention of the CDHC and the shaky economy.

Keep the replies coming! It is helping me add to my pro/con list.
