The 8th Vermont Infantry certainly was at Port Hudson from the end of May until early July 1863.Any history of the seige should do. See George Benedict's "Vermont in the Civil War" Volume 2 pages 125-136. Your ancestor (what was his name?) should be listed in Peck's "Revised Roster of Vermont Vounteers in the War of the Rebellion." You should be able to obtain a copy of his military record from the National Archives in Washington. |
