It wasn't an overnight thing, but by the last week of September, 1861, the 2nd Vermont was already beginning to see regular army blue uniforms mingling with the gray in the ranks, and by November the turnover was complete. Reference Zeller, page 50, quoting Wilbur Fisk's 17 December 1861 letter to the Green Mountain Freeman. |
