I decided to research this projector to see what I could find about it. Let me tell you, I hit many a wall and dead-ends trying to find information. I still don't know much but I know more than when I started. Heres what I found out:
Apollo brand 16mm and 8mm machines were mostly made by Excel Movie Products of Chicago, IL. I found info pointing to the fact that a Apollo 8mm projector was made after the image of a projector made by Hokushin Co. in or around 1961. I did find a Apollo projector on ebay and it did look like the Hokushin I found.
Apparently Excel (Apollo) were mostly interested in making 16mm machines as the listings for that format is extensive with only one 8mm being listed as the Apollo Super or Apollo Super-8. These both were a standard 8mm machine, unlike what the name implies. From what I could find they seem to have made projectors from the 1930s into the 1970s.
Today Excel, using the Apollo brand name, makes and sells overhead projectors for presentation purposes.
Thats all I've been able to gleen from the internet about this model. I hope I have helped some. |
